My recent body of work deals with the fragmented quality of our lives. We are ceaselessly bombarded by ideas, images, and knowledge. Most of us are multi-tasking and overloaded with too many responsibilities. We have many choices. We look at 5 or 6 windows on the computer at the same time, constantly toggling back and forth between them. Our lives are fast-paced; seemingly in constant motion. These paintings and drawings attempt to create order out of chaos, imagining our lives as "patchwork quilts;" orderly and comforting, yet full of life and color. After all, despite the frenetic pace of life, we make it work!
I love color and I continuously try to express the world's prismatic intensity. Patterns, textures, shapes, lines and even sounds and smells make their way into my abstract landscapes. One day, while passing under an arch of yellow leaves, I was bathed in a warm glow that was just so glorious. I tried to hold it in my mind, to share it through my work. In the evening, I am in awe of the sunset. Its wonderous array of purples, oranges, blues, pinks, yellows and grays is still a challenge to express. Light, that constantly shifting source, fascinates me. It can be dull and flat in a way that closes in the space or sharp and contrasting in an afternoon storm.
Ultimately, it is the sensory experience of living- both its intensity and its resonant beauty- that informs my work. I hope viewers find, in these works, the distillation of my experience, and a luminous space for their own experience.
